Lansdowne Gardens raising awareness of dementia

As Australia’s population ages so will the number of people living with dementia. Lansdowne Gardens this week held a Dementia Awareness seminar for the local community. The guest speaker for the evening was Professor Henry Brodaty, a world reknown authority on ageing and dementia and a member of the Lansdowne Gardens Medical Advisory Board. Professor Brodaty spoke about the detection and management of dementia, the impact on carers and the trial of drugs for treatment. Professor Brodaty said that “Caring for someone with dementia can be difficult and, at times, overwhelming but there is help you can get”. In the later stages, family care may be too much for any one person to handle, and residential care is required. “This is where respite care can be very helpful”, Professor Brodaty added.
