William Cape Gardens Giving Back to the Community at Christmas

Residents of William Cape Gardens visited the Kmart Wishing Tree at Lakehaven where they donated a trolley full of gifts for families in need. For our residents it’s a way of giving back to the community. They are thrilled to be able to help others at this special time of year. The gifts have been generously donated by our residents, their families and the staff of William Cape Gardens.

Residents of William Cape Gardens enjoyed a Christmas Carol performance by the wonderful MacKillop Catholic College Warnervale school choir. The school has also been fund raising and presented William Cape Gardens with gifts including a Samsung Galaxy tablet for our residents. A big thank you to the students of MacKillop for this lovely and generous gesture.

  • Lansdowne Gardens wins 2014 Better Practice Award

Lansdowne Gardens is thrilled to have won an award, second year in a row at the Australian Aged Care Quality Agency, Better Practice Awards. Lansdowne Gardens received the award for its Music Therapy Program. The Music Therapy Program was implemented to show that music is eternal, inter-generational and historical.

We commenced the music program in response to the fact that residents not only wanted to listen to music, and the composers, but the historical backdrop, to the influences on the composer and their position in world history and when particular pieces of music were written. They were interested in the world events surrounding these times. The goal is to include residents in the discussions, opinions on the composition and to provide an interactive program of listening to music and discussion.

An example of this program in action is the “Winter Music Festival” held in July, where opera performers from the Joan Sutherland/Richard Bonynge Society performed a selection of musical pieces, while our residents and their families sipped traditional German glühwein.
